Roberta’s Diversi-TEA Story
Dr. Roberta J. Wilburn is a diversity and inclusion expert as well as an avid tea lover. She is known as a Cultural Connoisseur because of her program A Cup of Culture & A Taste of Diversity. She loves all things about culture exploration and tea is a big part of her cultural experience. Dr. Roberta has always been a tea drinker for as long as she can remember. Over the years she began to move away from the traditional black tea and started trying teas of various flavors. In her early adult years, she stumbled upon a Bing Cherry tea and that was when she fell in love with fruit flavored tea. After she moved to Memphis, sweet tea became her drink of choice. People would come to her home and ask for her iced tea. Of course, she made traditional southern sweet, iced tea but she also made iced tea of other favors as well. When she went to Oxford, England, her love for hot tea went to a whole different level. She experienced English high tea and how the British people viewed tea as more than just something to drink but as a way of life. In 2006, Dr. Roberta went to South Africa, another tea drinking country where she was introduced to South African Rooibos tea. This was added to her list of favorite teas.
In January 2022, Dr. Roberta at the suggestion of her daughter Angel, decided to launch her own brand of Diversi-TEA to compliment Wilburn & Associates, LLC, her diversity consulting business that she started with her husband in 2018. She sought out one of the fastest growing companies of high quality tea in the United States to partner with in developing her personalized brand of tea. Revival Tea Company happened to be in Spokane, Washington were she was living at the time and she told them what she wanted, and Roberta’s Diversi-TEA was born. As a cultural connoisseur and a diversity and inclusion expert, it was important for Dr. Roberta to highlight culture in her Diversi-TEA so she began with her favorite South African Rooibos tea, and combined it with the fruity flavors of elderberry, and cranberries, completing the blend with rose hips and hibiscus.
